Scoring
2 & 3 point baskets
Games to 25, win by 3 or straight to 31
Fouls
OFFENSE calls fouls. The ball is checked at the top of the key to restart play.
If a fouls seems obvious but it is not called, play on, the offense may be playing advantage, but once the play continues the foul cannot be called.
Defense calls offensive infractions (traveling, double dribble, toe on 3-point line, etc.)
Once either team reaches 20 points, 1 foul shot is awarded for a foul during the act of shooting. If the free throw is made, it is worth 2 points (3 for a 3 point shot foul) and possession changes, if it is missed the foul shooting team retains and checks the ball at the top. No free throws is awarded if a foul is called and the shot is made, just the basket counts as standard rules apply.
If player calls foul but makes the basket, opposing team cannot fast break (ball must be checked or wait for player to recover).
EXCESSIVE fouling will not be tolerated!
Blocks & Goaltending
ANY PLAYER may touch the ball after it hits the backboard or rim.
Goaltending applies if the ball has not touched any part of the hoop.
Timeouts
1 time out per game, and YES you may call it in the air as you are jumping out of bounds.
If a 2nd time out is called the opposing team will get 1 foul shot worth 1 pt and the ball.
Any player on the team with possession can call timeout.
Out of Bounds
Side poles are in bounds, end poles are out of bounds.
Any ball that goes out of bounds via the side of the court MUST be checked, NO throw ins from side court!!!
You may inbound the ball from out of bounds from under your opponents hoop, meaning you are scoring on the opposite end. No inbounding ball from under your own hoop.
After made hoop, offensive team does not have to take ball into grass or out of bounds, they are allowed to pass in and must pass in from wherever they pick up the ball. Please ask if you have any questions regarding this rule.
A ball that bounces over the hoop is IN PLAY. It is only out of bounds IF it hits the hoop support in any way. This would also mean that balls can be shot from behind the backboard as well.
Possession
Before ALL GAMES start; rock, paper, scissors, to determine hoop and ball. Winner of R.P.S must choose hoop OR ball. If ball is chosen, opposing player chooses hoop. If hoop is chosen, opposing player gets ball and remaining hoop.
Jump balls are NOT called immediately, it is fight for a few seconds, and then if possession is still not determined, it will be alternating possession. Whoever did not start game with ball gets it first and so on. We encourage scrappiness, but not endangerment of others!
If the ball gets wedged between backboard and rim it is a LIVE ball! Continue play.
Cherry Picking Rule
Player must reach CP line (explain on site) to be involved in play, unless a defender is behind line with him when possession was established. Even if player does not make it back past line, the play may continue unless the illegal player touches the ball (if player touches the ball it is an automatic re-check, NOT A TURNOVER!). Player does not become eligible until he checks past the line or all 3 defenders cross CP line. The change in possession or ball going through hoop is the point in time where the player must be past line to be eligible.
Other
Unsportsmanlike behavior will NOT BE TOLERATED! This league is based on friendship, good times, and safety. Any excessive verbal misconduct and/or any actions endangering the well being of others will result in instant expulsion from the league.
It is NOT traveling if a player catches his own attempted shot, so long as it is clear it is an attempted shot. Please see NCAA rule book rule 4-section 66, Art 1.
A kick ball is determined any time an advantage is gained by a player who uses ANY part of his LEG to deflect the ball. If the offensive player intentionally throws the ball at a defenders leg, this is not a violation. End of story. Please see NCAA rule book, rule #4-section#43
